Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, my & many’s favorite architect said, “God is in the details”. This is a popular saying in Japanese, and some of the Artisans I spent time with used this phrase. In their context, “God” meant “Spirit”. In Monotheism, God is “absolute”. In Animism, millions of spirits exist everywhere. So, in my childhood, I understood Ludwig’s saying that each single detail has “spirit” – therefore it is so difficult for us to be so confident when we talk about someone’s culture. We do not have the absolute existence to follow to justify us – instead, we see the possibility of another spirit. Sashiko introduced in English is not wrong but very much simplified as they talk as if they know everything. I just experienced it today on FB, and it was so sad to see non-Japanese incorrectly define what Sashiko is. Well. Therefore, I speak up here to share what Sashiko really is.

日々刺し子について英語で語る中で、嫌な思いをする事も多々あるのですが、どこで「怒り」が発生するかという境界線を見つけることができました。自分の事はある程度貶されても流せるのですが、私が大切にしている刺し子を通した友人＆刺し子と真剣に向き合っている刺し子同志、んでもって彼か彼女らが作る刺し子とその思いを馬鹿にするような言動を見ると、導火線を経由せずに着火するようで。

日本語訳にするのも嫌なのですが、「重ね」についての議論の中で、英語圏の刺し子において一定の影響力のある人の刺し子への侮辱がありまして。一例として (1) 刺し子の裏表は一緒に見えるものではない。刺し子の裏表は一緒にならないのが普通だ。(2) ”重ね”は綺麗にならないし時が経てば解けてくる (3) 裏から刺し子をする際は「当然に」表を確認し続けなければならない。まだありますが、もうね、言葉を失いました。「重ねをしない」という選択肢はOKです。玉止めで完結する刺し子もあるし、玉止めの方が適している場合もあります。表から刺し子をする方がいい場合もあるし、裏から刺し子をするのが正解だとも思ってません。でも、上記のように刺し子の上限を決めてしまうような無知な言葉は、文化そのものを塗り替えてしまう傍若無人な暴力なのですよ。いつも言うように、「できるけど選択肢としてしない」は文化の一部です。ただ、この場合は「できないからしなくていい＆英語だから他にはわからないっしょ」と言うなんとも卑怯な感じが嫌なのです。刺し子をしっかり学び、真摯に向き合い、そして当たり前ですが「日々刺し子をしていれば」、上記のような言葉には辿り着きません。何よりもの刺し子を十分にしていない証拠で、刺し子をしていない人が専門家気取りをするのが、まぁ現代の病というか国境越しの文化の限界点というか。

裏と表は同様に綺麗になるし、重ねは綺麗にできるし、本当の意味での刺し子糸を使ったしっかりとした重ねは解けることはないし、表を確認するのは忘れることもある程度に針目はリズムで作ります。写真はななさん（@na.na_45）の三つ箱つなぎの刺し子風呂敷です。私は彼女の刺し子の一ファンなので手元に作品がある＆写真で紹介できますが、「重ね」は初歩的な技術と知識でもあるので、「重ね」が綺麗な人なんかは両手では数えきれないほど存在します。どこかで歯止めをかけないと…ね。重ねをしない刺し子も存在するでしょう。その場合は重ねが上手にできない刺し子職人さんもいらっしゃるかと思います。それはその地域の刺し子として尊重しますし、逆に私にはできない技術や知恵もあるのでしょう。ただ、「重ねは綺麗にならないのが日本の刺し子だ」なんていう物語を残された日には、私のしている刺し子は「刺し子じゃない」ことになり、先人に顔向けができないのですよ。人を馬鹿にするのも良い加減にして欲しいものです。

I appreciate all the positive reviews on our store, about my Sashiko Classes, and on Domestika Course. I found one interesting review that made me research & think. The review stated: [The Instructor instills confidence and radiates tranquility]. Well. I looked up the words first to make sure that my understanding isn’t far from what it actually means. “Instills” is a bit scary as I feel it may tresspasses someone’s personal space… yet, it is indeed what I am fighting against now – “Establish an idea” where a majority adapt the form they only feel comfortable with. Francly speaking, I do not find my story “tranquil (calm)” much, but I am happy that my teaching can radiate tranquility to those who learn Sashiko from me. I realize, probably, my “ordinary” itself is already “tranquil” in the Western Standard. Even after 6 years of teaching, I still find how unique my experience/wisdom can be in non-Japanese culture.

As you know, I do not like combining “Zen” to Sashiko as the principle itself goes the opposite. The outcome as “by-product” can be like Zen – focusing on Zen/Meditation is too simplifying the practice. Then, you may ask, isn’t “Zen” establishing “Tranquility”? I don’t have space to answer that here. I hope my Sashiko/Teaching will provide the answer.

It is absolutely necessary to “stitch” for the better understanding of Sashiko as a practice. However, the Sashiko itself can go beyond the practice. The main focus of the Sashiko Story here is, of course, Sashiko. However, would you be interested if I spin-off the story of “Spiritualism” that I carry? I do not want to make it sketchy. Something very ordinary for us – yet may be something new to you? Personally, I prioritize logic, yet I feel I need to share the story of “outside of Sashiko” to describe what Sashiko is.

暗中模索の中で始めた「刺し子を伝える」という活動なので、頂けるレビューはどのようなものでも参考にさせて頂いています。先日頂いた英語レビューが興味深く、上記で[]内で紹介しています。直訳すると…（刺し子への）自信を染み込ませ静けさを（放射線状に）広がらせる（講座）と。良い方向に解釈しての訳です（笑）。昔は気にせず前に出していたスピリチュアル。今は控えていますが、その控えた段階でも、つまりは私達日本人にとっては当たり前のことでも、時には神秘的に見えるのかもしれません。その当たり前の説明を繰り返せば少しは刺し子も伝わりやすくなるのかなと。スピリチュアル、線引きが難しいですが、少し英語圏で話してみようかと思っています。「刺し子＝禅」と雑にまとめられて変な方向に誘導されるよりは良いかなと。

I sometimes say that Culture is like an averaged “ordinary” of the people who live there. In other words, when the ordinary changes in origin, the culture will change accordingly. Therefore, I say, Culture should change. Tradition should evolve. I do not resist change in Sashiko – I am asking to be mindful in Change. When change happens with respect to the tradition (past) and celebration to the creativity (future), the change itself leads the new culture. When the past is ignored, and the future is commercialized, then the change may destroy the culture itself. To be honest, it isn’t the matter of “Good or Bad” – it is a matter of what we choose. The Sustainability concern we have now is mainly for the “future”. What I speak up here is about the “Sustainability of Upstream” – which is more like appreciation to the past. Again, both are important. I just want us to be mindful of the change itself focusing “What kind of change is done by Whom for What“ – here, “by Whom for What” is the key to avoid being ignorant. If you aren’t sure what is written here, try to think of your Sashiko – by Whom for What. It will explain a lot of things.

やっぱり刺し子は流行りなのでしょうか。面白いなぁ（不思議だなぁ）と思うのは、日本での流行は「ふきん＆色使い」なのに対して、英語圏での流行は「技術＆デザインとしての刺し子」です。「刺し子は技術だ」という表現は好まないので、英語圏での刺し子の流行に多様性を持たせる為のこのアカウントだったりします。技術は絶対的に当たり前に刺し子には大切なんですよ。技術がなきゃ話にならない。でも、技術で完結するほど表面的なものでもないのです。

「刺し子＝ふきん」となることは好みませんが、ふきんも刺し子の大切な重要な一部なので、個人的には「刺し子 x ふきん x 色使い」の流れは他人事のような感じで眺めています。同じ刺し子ですが、何か似て異なるような感覚もあって。「淳、もう少し声を上げなさい」と怒られることもあるのですが、ご自身の刺し子の形を大切にされている人々が存在する日本国内の刺し子は、やっぱり好きなのです。

真似したものを独学と言って付け焼き刃で「私のもの」のように振る舞うのは勿論、嫌です。でも、6年前に「無くなるくらいなら真似されちゃえ」と思って始めた活動でもあるので、覚悟もしてきている話です。そんな私の覚悟に敬意を示してくれる方には精一杯応えたいし、また真似せずにご自身の刺し子を続けていらっしゃる方には敬意と親しみを感じています。中指の運針が主流みたいになってますが、それも最近の話なはずで。とても不思議な話なのですが、素敵だなと思う刺し子をしている方には信念、あるいは学ぼうとする姿勢が存在します。そしてこれは怖い話なのですが、針目はその全てを語ります。針目みれば大体わかる…とは私の普段使いの言葉ではありますが、同時に多くの方に共感頂いている真実だろうとも思うのです。流行は流行としておいて、丁寧でかっこよくて素敵な刺し子を実際にしている方々にスポットライトをもっと当てて欲しいなぁと思うのです。とはいえ、実際に刺し子をしている人は刺し子をする時間が大半です。だから素敵なんだけど。自戒の年も込めて。刺し子を実際にしている人が主役の刺し子であって欲しいです。

As my focus here is “Sashiko Story” to preserve the Sashiko we practice in a trend of simplified Sashiko in English, I do not introduce what we offer as supplies so often here. Instead, I have a business account @upcyclestitches for that purpose, and one of the most privileged items I offer is Hand-Dyed Sashiko Thread with Natural Ingredients by Keiko.

You may know that Natural-Dye & Hand-Dye can be tricky especially in terms of “making it as a business” because it tends to be “one-of-a-kind” all the time. However, as a professional, she tries her best to keep the color as I & my friends & our customers expect. You may have seen me talking about [reproducibility and continuity (R&C)] over and over in Upcycle Stitches Website.

She does a fantastic job, but she of course experiences the result of not following the (R&C). She doesn’t put numbers on that (We have numbers for the color & what she dyes with), and she occasionally offers it within her community. I don’t have them here in the US. Or even, I don’t have chances to see them here. Once a year, she offers them online as a part of “Fortune Bag”. This year, some of the colors she tried are like this. So beautiful & I am jealous of those who are in Japan. I try my best to get them to Upcycle Stitches… Keiko is a Sashiko Artist, but her aesthetics eye to Natural Dye is incredible, too.

ご報告が遅くなってしまっているのですが、今年も「刺し子な福袋」は計画しております。恵子さんの描くテーマを言語化しつつ、師走の中を駆け抜けておりますので、もう暫くお待ちくださいませ。在庫整理を目的とした福袋ではない為（そもそも在庫そのものが少ない為）、福袋ようにある程度の数は揃えつつ、「購入したけど届けられなかった」なんていう失敗が内容に慎重に準備をしております。一点ものなので全部違うので、数の把握を間違えると取り返しがつかないこともあるのでね。

昨年までは「色」をテーマにしてきました。赤系の色だったり、藍色の深さに挑戦してみたり。今年のテーマは「継続性と再現性」です。成功とか失敗とかではなく、その心構えというか…念頭において作っているものではあるのですが、そこで成功した糸である程度の数があるものや、失敗となってしまってもう二度と再現できないかもしれない糸も含めて、準備する予定です。糸の福袋に加えて、もう一つは春の展示会＆オフ会の時に恵子さんが伺った声を形にできるような福袋も進めています。

I occasionally come across a discussion of “Stitching Speed” in Sashiko with so many opinions, advice, and even “definitions”. From a Japanese Sashiko Stitcher’s perspective, the priority is NOT the speed. However, speed will enhance the experience of Sashiko. “Speed” isn’t something to look for, yet “Speed” is somewhat necessary to experience something I want to pass down.

Yes, my stitching is fast as you can see it on Live Streaming. In fact, our stitching (with Sashiko friends I taught Sashiko to) is very fast. My fingers aren’t enough to list the stitchers who may stitch faster than I do. I am pretty sure that their priority is NOT speed – yet speed comes along.

Sashiko has become a trend with so many tails such as “Sustainability”, “Recycle” and “Visible Mending”. One big trend which is very true yet with full risk of missing the authenticity is “Meditative” and “Relaxation”. I find so much advice leaning on Sashiko as “Meditative Stitching”. Because of this relaxation purpose, some even advise it is “better” to stitch slower. If it is their personal choice, no problem. When they tell others that Sashiko is “Slow” stitching, then they are missing a great part of the Sashiko Stories. You are here to learn Sashiko – so please be mindful in wording. We can “choose” what we want – and I do not want our “choices” to be disrespectful from a cultural perspective.

英語圏での刺し子には様々な尾鰭がついていて、何かの代名詞であるかのように（違う目的を象徴的に伴うように）議論されているのを目にすることがあります。その中でも「刺し子の速さ」は嫌われているというか、「速さ」がテーマになると「ゆっくりで良いんだよ」という助言で溢れる議論が目立ちます。

結論から言うと、刺し子の針目を作る速度はそれほど重要じゃありません。速ければ良いわけじゃないけれど、ある程度のスピードがないとリズムに乗れないのも事実。ただ、刺し子の由来を考えると、「ゆっくりで良いんだよ」で終わらせて欲しくないのです。と言うのも英語圏での「ゆっくり」とは、「刺し子＝リラックスする方法」で完結してしまっている場所の話なので、「ゆっくりな方がいい」と言う頓珍漢なことを言う人も出てきてしまうのです。刺し子をするとリラックス効果は間違いなくありますし、刺し子を癒しとか作業療法とかという別の目的を持って行うことも素晴らしいことだと思います。ただ、それは「昔の形」を無視したり捻じ曲げたりしていい言い訳にはなりません。昔を知り、思いを馳せ（想像して）、そして現代の中で尊敬を持ちながら変えていく。変化とはそうあるべきです。そうじゃない変化は強引に変えられたものであり、変化とは一線を引くべきものなんだろうと思うのです。

もっと勉強してから助言をして欲しいものです。ってか、自分の文化内の物じゃないのに、どうしてそこまで自信満々に助言ができるのか、今でも不思議で仕方ありません（笑）

Last few months, I have been receiving emotional comments from “Japanese” people. Some actually practice Sashiko. The others come to me to “study” Sashiko for their related field. Their words are very frank (as it is toward me directly). Their straight words indirectly accuse me of saying “Well, it is what it is”. I encourage myself to give up things. Don’t get me wrong. I really appreciate them telling me what they feel. Their Japanese expertise are the most important input I can ask for. The summary of their scream is, with making it soft & nice, it is [Respect the Upstream of a practice/culture]. I guess they are asking me [Are you protecting your own Upstream? You aren’t!? WTF!?].

One Sashiko Artisan with 40+ years experience told me, [I see so many videos of using a ring thimble & using middle fingers for Unshin on Youtube & everywhere. Are they all your students? It wasn’t common 10 years ago, right?]. Before 2016, there were no videos/books/articles explaining Unshin I often share here and there. THEREFORE, I started uploading videos. Interestingly, the Unshin with the middle fingers isn’t (wasn’t) mainstream in Sashiko. It is part of the Sashiko I received, but a modified version with them for me.

The logical solution you say would be “securing it with IP”. I don’t want to do that as I believe the Unshin is NOT “mine”. Therefore, I share on Youtube & say copy it. So, I am glad they copy it, and I don’t ask for money for the right to use it. As I always say, all I want is the “acknowledgement”, so that I can identify the “upstream”, and share more stories around what happens(ed) in the upstream. I think it is time for me to speak up in that direction, too. We do not want to lose an upstream on anything, I believe.

ここ最近、「淳はそれでいいの？気持ち悪くないの？」という私以外の方からの、怒り（？）に似た感情を頂くようになりました。何かが流行ると、流行る前に存在していた本質を貫けるモノが置いてけぼりになるのかもしれません。それが嫌で今の活動を行っていますが、同時にある程度は「仕方ない」とも自分に言い訳をしています。でも、声を持たない人、でも覚悟を持った人の代弁は必要で、「仕方ない」は見て見ぬふりをするという卑怯な行為なのかもしれません。いじめっこが悪いのは当然ですが、傍観者も同様に悪いと言う論理のような感じで。何ができるかわかりませんが、考え発信し続けます。

I apologize for canceling the Live Streaming at the last minute last night. It is a big nightmare to find an oil puddle under the car. As we are a family of 3 with no relatives around, I needed to make a lot of arrangements… and here I am at a dealer to see how it goes. I hope this won’t bring us a big expense…

Trying to find a small positive in misfortune. It is Dec.8th, and as you may know, it is “Hari-Kuyou (針供養)” – the day to say farewell to our hard-worked, much contributed, and broken/bend needles. In Japan, we put the broken needles into something soft, and bring it to a shrine/temple for doing “Kuyou”. It is, traditionally, recommended to not to hold the needle on the day of Hari-Kuyou… so, canceling the Live Streaming wasn’t the worst thing. I had a restless night (again, we need to have the car…), but my needles could have a day off.

“Hari” means “Needle”, and “Kuyou” means… Well, it is another word that we cannot translate without context. Dictionary translates Kuyou as “Memorial Service”, but it doesn’t explain the whole. Again, same as Sashiko, not wrong but not sufficient as “description”. It is probably difficult for native Japanese to explain what “Kuyou” really is – because it is part of their lives. They have their own definition, rituals, and approach to “Kuyou”. Same as Sashiko. This ambiguity is the key to be comfortable with Japanese culture, and it is my goal to clarify the detail of this ambiguity – as the ambiguity is a collection/accumulation of many many stories.

本日の配信、ドタキャンになってしまって申し訳ありませんでした。先日雪が降って車が駐車してあった所にオイル滲みを見つけて。先日メンテしたばっかりだったので、他の車だろうと高を括っていたのですが、昨晩オイル溜まりとなっていて。異国で過ごす核家族において車が使えないというのは致命的な話で、様々なリスケしつつ、ちょうど配信の時間にディーラーに鬼電しておりました。アメリカ、12月は相当押さないと誰も働かないんですよね。気がつけば今日は針供養の日。ここ最近毎日針を持っていたので、今日くらいは針を休ませてと言う助言だったのかもしれません。ま、針を持たなくていいだけならオイル漏らさなくてもええやんとは思いますが…。来週は配信できますように。

Posts about Cultural Appropriation always attract some ignorance. They read what they think I am writing here instead of what I am actually trying to convey here. I am NOT saying that Cultural Appropriation doesn’t exist. It does & it is a very important issue we need to be aware of. I cannot speak for the general picture of Cultural Appropriation, either. Only thing I can do is to share my honest feeling toward Sashiko & its Cultural Appropriation from a Japanese Sashiko Artisan’s perspective. I have to speak up about this issue because of 1% of ignorance here, and the previous post was 99% of careful & mindful people who are interested in Sashiko.

You may suggest: “Why don’t you block those ignorance (trolls)”? It is 100% true that I should block them, especially when they don’t even reveal who they are. 99% of haters can leave nasty comments/DMs because they make themselves anonymous. So yes, “Block” is the effective way to keep my psychological condition. At the same time, even this kind of ignorance contributes to the superficial trend of Sashiko. Therefore, I want to keep the possibility open for those to “re-think” so that the message I want to convey may be delivered to them. Well… the chance may be so small, but my goal isn’t keeping myself healthy for this matter… It is so unfortunate that I need to do this, but someone gotta do this. As I mumble in the Live Streaming, I wonder if I weren’t proficient in English (It is pure luck that I can write this in English).

最近配信でも言葉として出てしまうようになったのですが、「もし英語ができなかったら」という仮定を考えてしまう時があります。私の英語能力は基本的に「運が良かったから」身についたものです。勿論、大学時代の思い出したくもない量の努力があってのことですが、ただ留学しようと思ったのも、それに向けて努力したのも、「刺し子だけはしたくない」という強いマイナス方向の思いがあったからです。今ではその英語に助けられていると思うと、人生とは不思議なものだなと。

言語は思考パターンを作ります。極論、英語だけでは刺し子の全体像は理解できません。それでも努力して日本の刺し子を理解しようとしてくださる、非日本語圏の方々に向けての活動です。英語だけで「わかったよ」的なことを言う人の為に存在しているんじゃないんですよね。

日本語での活動は…楽しく刺し子をしてたいと言うのが本音です。それだけじゃ駄目だってお叱りを頂くことも承知の上で。とはいえ、刺し子が基本なのは間違いなくて、刺し子では無い所が中心にならないように気をつけなきゃなと思っています。ま、日々の投稿も刺し子だけだから心配もそんなに必要ないとは思いますが。

I say, “Do not worry about Cultural Appropriation too much (If you are worried about it)”. I want everyone to enjoy Sashiko. With just one condition – Acknowledgement to Japanese people & stories behind it. Unfortunately, the acknowledgement is difficult for some who wish to focus on their profit & convenience. What would you name this type of simplification/modification of culture for their profit?

C/A is a complicated subject. When I get confused, I try to think it is simple. I just want those Japanese who are in Sashiko culture/industries to be able to make their living by just doing (introducing/teaching) Sashiko. In this big trend of Sashiko in English, with so much simplification, this fundamental wish now requires one condition. One has to be proficient in English. That’s not fair.

I had a discussion with a “Sashiko Teacher” about it. They said they didn’t make much money – just enough to travel to Japan yearly. I don’t know any Japanese Sashiko teachers who can go overseas every year. Sashiko is way too simplified for someone’s profit – and not many Japanese “who have been doing Sashiko for decades” are receiving it. I just want it to be fair. Please be mindful about whom you are supporting. A choice/action you make will influence the now/future of Sashiko.

「文化の盗用」という言葉に出会ってから4年の月日が経ちます。本や記事を読んだり、事ある事に英語圏の方々にご意見を伺うようにしています。でも、まだ正直わかりません。「盗用」という日本語訳から違和感が出てしまうのか、あるいはそもそも文化などというものは盗めるものなのかなど、私の日本的常識が根本にある論理構成では、なかなか実態が掴めないでいます。

そういう時はできるだけ単純に考えるようにしています。日本には数多くの種類の「刺し子」という針仕事の文化が存在します。持続可能を考える中で、ある刺し子は保存会的なものを作り、またある刺し子は商売として小さい経済圏を作りました。様々な変化の中で、日本国内で「刺し子で生計を立てている」人の数は大きく減ったのではと思っています。もしかしたら、「刺し子だけ」と限定すると一人もいないかもしれない。

言語を超えた海外では、人気が出た「刺し子」という言葉を使ってお金儲けをする人がいます。「刺し子とは？」という本質は無視して、都合が良い所だけを切り取って、教えたり出版したり物を販売したり。お金を稼ぐことが悪いのではないのです。都合が良い所だけを切り取るのがいけない。一つの極端な可能性として、「日本国内で日本語にて刺し子に関わる人は全て無報酬なのに、英語圏での刺し子関係者は毎年海外旅行が楽しめるだけの利益は出る」という、なんだかよくわからない未来が存在します。この不平等の根本にあるのは「英語ができるかどうか」だけです。刺し子の知識や技術は関係ない世界線です。なんか嫌じゃないですか？何か盗まれている感じがしませんか？どれだけ刺し子がSASHIKOとして人気になろうとも、刺し子は日本の当たり前を根底に持つ針仕事であって欲しいのですよ。繰り返しますが、お金を稼ぐのが悪いのではないのです。寧ろ良いことで稼げる人は稼いだ方がいい。ただ、その文化の本質は必ず尊重しなければと思うのです。切り取るのは本質を歪めます。刺し子は刺し子であって欲しいのです。

As I often say, there are no (absolute) rules to follow in Sashiko. There is no right or wrong in Sashiko. However, there are a number of “Local” Sashiko Rules that enrich Sashiko. In my Sashiko Class, I teach the rules we follow – but also mention that it is NOT the rules everyone has to follow.

While glancing at discussions about Sashiko in English, I often find the “Answers” that significantly simplify the practice. Some may be done by just not-knowing and being kind to others (yet offering an answer without proper knowledge isn’t really Japanese). However, the others may ignore the fact, and simplify the rules so that they can benefit from it.

I just want you here to know that there is a Sashiko which aims both Front and Back to be the same. There are reasons for why, and we have techniques to achieve so. It is wrong to teach others [Sashiko don’t make both sides the same]. It is misleading and excluding some of the “Japanese Sashiko” we practice. If they benefit from it (by teaching), then it is “Cultural Appropriation”.

Please do not listen to those who simplify the culture no matter how “famous” they are. There is a huge gap between “Don’t” and “Can’t”. Please learn it from someone saying “I don’t” instead of “I cannot”. You gotta be smart to see through (as no one say “I cannot”). Please don’t be a part of simplifying the culture. Please learn Sashiko from someone who really knows it.

定期的に（頻繁に）英語圏で話題になる「刺し子のルール」についてですが、その言語で理解できないのにどうしてそこまで自信をもって断言できるのか不思議で仕方ありません。イタリアのパスタについての議論でプロを名乗るなら、とりあえずイタリア語で理解できるところまでは謙虚を貫くのではと思うのです。こういう状況を作り出すのが言語間の力関係で、英語ができるだけで優位性があるよねと普段から愚痴る理由です。

刺し子にはルールが存在します。ただ、それは地方性が強く「絶対的なルール」は存在しません。というか存在しないようにお互いを尊重してきたのが刺し子の本質です。「刺し子の表と裏」は、表だけ綺麗にして裏を隠すのも、両面ともに綺麗にするのも、どちらも刺し子です。先日英語圏で本も出版している自称専門家が「刺し子では裏と表は一緒ではない」と断言して答えとしていました。それでは、私達が残そうとしている裏と表も一緒になるように努力する刺し子、つまり「布が足りない時代、裏布が手に入れ難い時代に表と裏を作らないように努力した刺し子」は、英語圏では刺し子ではないのでしょうか？

これには言葉遊び以上の問題が存在します。それは「〜しない」と断言する人は「〜できない」ことも多いのです。専門家を名乗る以上、両面綺麗にする刺し子が存在することは知っているはずです。ただ、自分ができなから「〜しない」と返事する。この「しない」と「できない」の間には「努力」という文化を尊敬するにおいて一番大切なことが必要です。だからムカついてるんでしょうね。努力せずに何が専門家だって。英語できるだけで努力が圧倒的に足りてない。物売ったり宣伝したりする前にまずは針を持てよ。
