QuiltCon 2026 Sashiko Workshops & Lecture
[Core & Essence Workshop]
This remains the fundamental workshop in my teaching. In Sashiko, the focus is not on making “one perfect” stitches, but on moving the needle smoothly and comfortably in communication with fabric. In this workshop, you will learn the essential technique and philosophy that underpins everything else I teach.
- No prior Sashiko experience required.
- Everyone will use the same tools & materials (Special Supply Package).
- Expect plenty of stitching, new muscle movements, and sometimes an eye-opening “uncomfortable” practice that will lead to discovery.

[Apply Hitomezashi to Our Ordinary Workshop]
Hitomezashi is one of the most popular styles of Sashiko, easy to adapt into daily life and garments. In this session, we explore how to prepare grids, create patterns, stitch Hitomezashi, and apply it to fabrics or clothes you bring.
- Flexible in tools & thread choices.
- Optional supply package available.
- No prerequisite, but prior experience with [Core & Essence] will help your process.

[Lecture: Show & Tell – Japanese Sashiko and Boro]
When discussing “authentic Sashiko,” people often look only to the past. Yet Sashiko is still alive today, carried on by artisans creating large works such as jackets and blankets. In this lecture, I will introduce both photographs and actual samples on stage, sharing the living presence of Sashiko. Each piece carries a story, and beyond imagining the voices of history, you will hear stories directly from the makers. This session invites you to see Sashiko as a continuing practice, and to find deeper pride and meaning in your own stitching journey.

Hello
I am from India and am totally fascinated by Sashiko. I have tried my hand at it on small projects… Having seen your post on Pinterest, and seeing that you conduct work shops, I would love to attend one in 2026. however, I will be going to the UK in May, for my daughter’s birthday. so if I have the dates, I can make travel plans around then.
Please let me know how much it will cost, if you provide accomodation, and if my husband can come along as well. We are senior citizens and always travel together.
